The Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) Annual Legislative Conference is an opportunity to bring together a diverse cross-section of elected officials, industry experts, business, faith, and community leaders from across the state of Georgia. Attendees will engage in public forums and network opportunities to share and exchange ideas and evidence-based solutions to problems and challenges affecting blacks, people of color and disenfranchised Georgians.

GLBC Heritage Gala

Since its inception, the Georgia Legislative Black Caucus (GLBC) has hosted a gala to celebrate our accomplishments and acknowledge those in our community who continue to lead and inspire. On August 19th, join GLBC at the Georgia Aquarium, for a formal affair. Our theme, Uniting Black Voices….continues is a testament to being a united black voice, that converges past cries for freedom with current demands for Black Lives Matter. Let's celebrate under the stars and appreciate our story and our victories.

Track: Affordable Health Care
Location: Omni Hotel
Description: According to the Centers for Disease Control, Black women nationally are three times more likely to die from pregnancy-related causes than White women. In Georgia, Black women are 3.3 times likely to die from pregnancy-related complications, the highest ratio in the country. During this panel discussion listen to leading medical professionals, policymakers, academics, and community advocates address this crisis by offering context, policy and program recommendations, and sound medical advice which can collectively save lives and our families.

Description: Since 2020, the assault on democracy has been pronounced, intentional, and national in scope. In Georgia, Black voters were critical in turning the state purple. As a result, the state legislature adopted new laws to undermine voting rights and limit nonprofits civic engagement. Regardless of existing laws, our democracy matters and its preservation is our national priority. During lunch, our speaker will offer insight on how to champion democracy via exercising our Constitutional right.

Description: Racism is a threat to the public health, especially for Black people. Policies reinforce health inequities while de facto practices reinforce an unwillingness to acknowledge and treat mental health. One can argue the latter is more dangerous to our community. In one study almost 63 percent of Black people believed a mental health condition was a sign of personal weakness. In this panel discussion, hear from leading experts in mental health, public health policy, and community-based service delivery as they offer hope and a path towards healing. No longer can we stay silent as people are suffering.

Track: Closing the Digital Divide

Description: The late Congressman John Lewis opined, “Access to the internet … is the civil rights issue of the 21st century.” As we enter the third decade of this millennium, digital equity is still an idea that has yet to be realized by many Americans. In a survey from the Harvard Business Review, 70 percent of Blacks report being underprepared with digital skills. At this rate we are preparing generations for failure. This timely and relevant panel discussion will examine the challenges facing BIPOC members to realize digital equity and identify policy, program, philanthropic, and private sector action capable of achieving diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Description: Art is a mirror to the world in which it derives from. It can be used to reinforce the status quo or disrupt existing norms, systems, and structures. In the Black community, art has been a vehicle to affirm our humanity and give voice to our struggle for freedom. It is the song, painting, play, film, and dance of our existence. Art and activism are not mutually exclusive, but complementary forces working together to achieve Black liberation. In this intimate conversation with a critically acclaimed artist, we explore how art and activism in the 21st century continues to move the needle forward.
